Fix For Fall
It is the end of September and Italian fashion designers show their Spring 2010 collections in Milan and Swoon shows her art in Berlin. I am back in Seattle prepping myself for fall. Mmm – I love fall – squash and Pinot Noir, cashmere and fur. I love new beginnings, de-cluttering and cleansing. We often associate spring-cleaning with external values – what shows: our houses, cars and body shapes. For fall-cleaning, I’m enjoying getting my clarity from more internal cleansing.
I quit the job that really had nothing to do with who I am and where I’m going. I am adding fat to my diet by eating more salmon and olive oil (to avoid dry hands). I’m letting people go who continue to break me down or disappoint me. I continue to laugh at myself and remember that at the end of the day I’m a total Bridget Jones. I’m clearing out my pores and prepping my skin for the cold months to come. I’m participating in a 31-day hot yoga challenge at Urban Yoga Spa (UYS).
Yesterday I took class at UYS from Kathy and Gordon (the owners) – I simply adore them. They are shots of positivity. It was an intense but chill (albeit hot!) class. Holding poses until my muscles were shaking (I have been gone for too long), followed by a faster-paced series, into abdominal lifts, and finally relaxing on the floor listening to Imagine. That’s when I started to envision walking on water in a white puffy maxi dress. I’m not sure where this vision came from (they were not handing out anything before or during the class).
To add more fix to a very unbroken day – a shower, robe and facial by Kimberly at UYS. I hear opera at this point – Kimberly double-exfoliated my face, steamed it, masked it, creamed it and never left the room. When something needed to be left on my face, she massaged my feet, arms, and shoulders. I walked outside afterwards. It felt as if I were still indoors because I didn’t hear the street noise, car horns, or anyone asking me to save the trees. I was now walking on a yummy cloud.
Whatever you choose for your internal fix –hot yoga + spa, taking shots of cod-liver oil, or removing some unwanted crap in your life – remember: Have fun – it’s going to be a Fabwick fall!
