Seattle Sans Birkenstocks and Fleece

When I first stepped into Barolo three years ago –
I thought to myself: “Ahh, this is where they keep the ambiance!” After years of going to various restaurants in this town feeling all dressed up and nowhere to go (and yet going), I have completely lost track of how often I’ve been asked where I’m going (perhaps due to always being overdressed), and how often I’ve answered “Here. I’m going here.”
There’s a certain crowd in Seattle that is not to keen on fashion and might even think that fashion is stupid. To each their own, but for the record I’m offering my two cents:
Fashion is art and it’s brilliant.
Trends are for consumers with no personal style.
Knock-offs are thefts.
Personal style is fashion.
Women who eat pasta are fearless.
Barolo is a restaurant where you will find the best-dressed people in Seattle eating fabulously priced fresh homemade pastas (made with organic eggs). Personal favorite – the Tortelloni filled with porcini mushrooms and truffle-leek sauce.
Whether I go to Barolo for Happy Hour on a Monday wearing a vintage gown and Marni stilettos, or dinner on a Thursday night in a hot pink Marc Jacobs item, or to their New Year’s Eve party in a black tuxedo dress with feathers in my hair…
- When I’m at Barolo, nobody asks me where I’m going.
