Who Are You? (step 2)

Marlene Dietrich‘’Self-trust is the essence of heroism.’’ Emerson

Confidence is the most essential ingredient in owning your own style. While working on developing your style, you must project this quality. Women who struggle with their confidence are rarely seen as stylish or strong. Their lack of self-belief is what gets projected. They lack real presence. To develop self-confidence takes work, but there’s really no other way to live than to love yourself and enjoy being you. Also, this work is on you – I’m not a therapist.

Your style: now that you have identified where your fashion inspiration comes from (Part 1), you can choose your favorite silhouettes, colors, and flair from your favorite icons and incorporate them into your personal style. Start with 6 timeless items that you can see as part of your ongoing signature style. Take for example: a Halston vintage jersey dress, a classic blue jean, a string of pearls, a nude cashmere tank, a Lanvin black pump and a vintage suede handbag. The items you choose should represent your style, personal agenda and beliefs – to bring out your true essence.

Coco ChanelOnce you have these items picked out, use them as measuring tools and start pairing them with other pieces from your wardrobe. Every piece that doesn’t go with your favorite 6 items, should be put in a box and stored for a couple of months. (You can re-visit these pieces once you’ve found your style). Doing this will make you feel like you’re onto something and that you’re getting a glimpse of who you are (or who you’re going to be). This is a très exciting time. And it will only get juicier. Enjoy! There are more steps to come, stay tuned.
