That 70′s Look

There’s something about the 70’s flair that simply weakens my knees – the longparted hair, maxi dresses, pink lipstick, wedges, and fringy handbags. Several years ago my closet was an ideal treasure-hunt façade that I pulled from for my every day 70’s style – I started with the 60’s and then moved on to the 70’s. Now a decade later I find myself re-creating my own 70’s flair. Unfortunately I had cleared out my closet and given away several pieces – I moved across the Atlantic too many times to keep the treasures…  Besides, I’ve gone through and visited other eras and one can’t possibly keep everything. It’s just too much when one goes from 70’s-inspired to shaved-head-feminine-tron-esque, to millennium-glamour-working-girl. I believe in getting rid of the old to make room for the new (this will never apply to my Oscar de la Renta silk faille dresses or my Prada lace). As we know, the majority of our indulgent purchases are investment pieces – a brilliant maxim we tell ourselves and our men.

This recessionista is recreating her look on a budget this time – and there’s no better place to do this than in Los Angeles. My inspiration for this enhancement might very well have something to with the fact that I’m in LA for work. By the way, hair extensions are cheaper than an average bra down here (if one is willing to get down and dirty and shop for human hair for $50 in an alley). The vintage maxi dresses couldn’t be more accessible when one is cruising through the Rose Bowl flea market – the City of Angels got it all.  Cheap oversized aviators for $5 on the streets, pink lipsticks are a Rite Aid away and wedges – well, I brought a few pairs…  My latest purchase is a $3.99 pale pink slip from the Goodwill that I’m using as a maxi. I believe that my source of retail tells you that I’m keeping my Eurotrash Badass flair – just going vintage with it and adding my passion for the Halston legacy in a very Californian way. Catching my drift?
