We found the dress for the girl who knows what she wants and doesn’t want to be like anyone else. I love this tulle gown – it has a mix of Couture-esque and Goth flair. I would personally take off the straps to leave it strapless and shorten the length to above the ankles. This would feature the shoes: a black lace peep-toe pump or a pale pink covered platform ballet pump. Both of these options are from Christian Louboutin. If this is not your dress, search through Couture Allure online. It has an array of 50’s and 60’s full skirt dresses. Marry your man with Mad Men in mind.

Price for this look:

Vintage Dress: $275

Louboutin Shoes: $800

All eyes on you: Priceless

For everything else: There’s the choice of cash – we’re still in a recession…

Additional choice sans getting hitched: Simply wear this look to a dinner on any night.

Today was not my lucky day. I woke up with an urge to re-visit my old thrift stores on the outskirts of Seattle, where I used to find all my goods during my University years. These places were goldmines of untouched treasures that I had direct access to and ownership of. These places were the playgrounds of my best friend and me, and we didn’t share them with anyone. These places were ours. These were the times when people didn’t recognize vintage Dior from 70’s polyester. These were the times when I found a vintage Lanvin shirtdress for 99 cents. I found all my vintage fur coats, mid-century lamps, asymmetrical Studio 54 dresses, loads of metallics (when people made fun of metallics), and ballerina tutu dresses (way before Carrie Bradshaw).

Now, my goldmines have gone to the ashes (metaphorically) and two of them have closed. Where did they all go? Did we spread the word too much before we moved away? Did it all get bought up? Or is it because we left that these places actually went out of business? Now I’m back, and there are no vintage Lanvin dresses to be found in those remaining ‘’secret places’’. (There are no more “secret places”!). I drove from one place to another and it only got more depressing. It got to the point where I walked in one of them and what I witnessed was devastating: old magazines, loonies circling through plastic plates and containers, a couple of bad smelling ass-crackers investigating VCR machines – I mean really? Not a single vintage piece – not even a sandpaper-like polyester maxi with stains on it.

At this point I was intensely depressed and drove home as if my life depended on it. I stopped by my neighborhood store, Ken’s, and purchased a little pick-me up treat: fresh produce, goat cheese and Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc. I put on Edith Piaf and start searching the Internet. NO! It was an unreal moment for my Mac and me. I found a printed vintage Lanvin long sleeve maxi at Couture Allure for only…well, let’s just say it was more than 99 cents, but it was a fair deal indeed. I am a lucky person and the world is my Lanvin…
