I hope you have a delicious weekend planned ahead. I would love to hear what your plans are. It’s been cold and crappy here in Seattle lately and I’m anticipating spring more now than I did when I lived in Iceland – where it sometimes snows in May. I do enjoy cold winters – purely for the wardrobe enjoyment of wearing cashmere and vintage fur coats. As of today, I couldn’t be more ready for spring – I can’t take this bloody wind anymore. I mean really – what the hell is going on around here?

Not that I need good weather to do any outdoor activities – I’m not outdoorsy at all (a.k.a. I don’t do stuff). I just happen to live in the Northwest, but I don’t bike, hike, run or climb. I do however, take walks in my beautiful neighbourhood, Queen Anne. And sometimes I walk to downtown – to go shopping (of course). Another outdoor activity that I adore is drinking white sangrias outside at the Pink Door at Pike Place Market (always a classic). This weekend, my activities are purely indoors – this evening I’m going to dinner at Umi (a delicious sushi place in Belltown) and then to the Seattle Art Museum (SAM), to see Alexander Calder before it closes and to visit the SAM shop.

The rest of the weekend is hot yoga and writing, writing, writing (I’m on a deadline for a very exciting project I cannot yet talk about). For those of you who are spending some time this weekend surfing the web-globe – I’ve pulled a couple of fun articles/posts and some fabulous shopping options. Enjoy!

That said, I just signed up for a couple of discount online shopping sites today. I really hesitated since I had just unsubscribed from a bunch of promotional emails and my Blackberry had a free flowing feel to it. Substituting the online site messages for other promotional emails has made my life better.

I get emails from the Gilt Groupe and other places, but I simply don’t have the time to stay tuned with every promotion that goes on – that’s why I shop via Outnet.com. They send only super exciting product emails. You can then go on and shop on your own time without the pressure of a time frame.

Yesterday, a friend of mine forwarded me an invite to sign up for Rue La La and I have to say that this site gets me excited. The reason: Rue La La offers sales on W Hotel rates, W Hotel beds and sheets, and wine from J Vineyards & Winery – now, this is promotion worthy.

The theme is seeds.
‘’Our bodies are our gardens – our wills are our gardeners’’ William Shakespeare. Love!

Another reason to be excited about live theatre: Laura Linney plays a war photographer in a new play by Donald Margulies – ”Time Stands Still”, opening at the Manhattan Theater Club this Thursday.

Before Halston relaunched in 2008, I used to search tirelessly for a jersey vintage Halston. My obsession for certain vintage design like Lanvin, Dior, Schiaparelli and Halston, is severely deep and can be the cause of a heavy depression when there’s no outlook for conquering.

In the mid-nineties, several women in Manhattan also searched for the perfect, vintage Halston jersey dress. Only a handful of them succeeded in that search, and several women were left out in the cold with broken hearts. If a woman sets her mind on a certain item of clothing, she has no peace of mind until that item rests in her closet, whether she’ll actually wear it or not. If she wants it, she shall get it.

That said, when there is a certain piece from a different era on a woman’s mind, it’s not simple to find. And when a fashion house is part of our history, there isn’t much hope. After all, how many Schiaparelli coats are out there? One?

When Halston came back to life, I felt a shining warm feeling inside. That feeling was revived today when I found several iconic Halston pieces at half-price on Outnet.com.

Every woman that never got her vintage jersey, and all the others that do not wear vintage (and yet cannot fathom paying full price for Halston), can now unite and celebrate that the impossibly-chic Halston jersey is accessible for half the price.

Being on an emotional Halston roller coaster, I really cannot project what will happen for Fall 2010 when we’ll get to see how Marios Schwab has interpreted this never dying, iconic brand.

When I’m craving Paris so much that it hurts, I try to create my own Paris. As beautiful as Seattle is – it’s not very exotic. It’s easy to get depressed by people’s northwest outerwear or listen to them complain about the weather. It rains here and it’s getting dark – accept it or live somewhere else. This time of year can be very sexy if you just celebrate the darkness. It’s only going to get darker and colder, this is no time to complain. What we can do is to continue with the Film Noir theme here. Just wear lots of black and big crystal cocktail rings or cuffs. Put on a black cocktail dress, boots, leather gloves and sit at Le Pichet or at another French café and read. If you need to boost your dark wardrobe, be a recessionista and shop at the Outnet.com for discounted designer apparel or go for vintage. It’s time you spice up your spirit and act in your own Film Noir.
