Would love to know what you did. Besides writing and going to hot yoga at the Urban Yoga Spa, I enjoyed delicious food and good friends. This weekend was the first time I went to The Oddfellows Café on Capitol Hill. It’s one of the most charming cafés in Seattle–old hardwood floors, open space and an adorable little patio in back. It definitely has a New York feel to it and, well, the soul of the place comes from it being a former acting studio (Freehold Theatre Lab Studio). This is where a lot of us Seattle actors took classes in anything from stage combat to scene study. I surely recommend the bruschetta with ricotta, peas and fresh mint. I also cruised Georgetown a bit, Via Tribunali and the Hudson bar – what a delightful borough!

Below is my collection of links from the web world I’m sharing with you today:

Now with McGruber – The SNL team knows how to turn a sketch into a successful feature film - New York Times

Have you visited the blog of Anna Dello Russo? I would hang myself to be reborn in her closet (OK maybe a bit extreme, but you catch what I’m after) – Annadellorusso.com

Christian Louboutin has taken a stand against fake Louboutins by launching a new website that also hosts a video of destroying a mountain of fake merchandise with a tractor, take a look – Stopfakelouboutin.com

Dior debuts its Cruise 2011 60’s collection in Shanghai - Style.com

“Sex and the City 2″ is on a “tentative” movie schedule in Dubai. The original film was not shown in the United Arab Emirates - Huffingtonpost.com

Don’t dread your Monday. Check a couple of things off your list, take walk and buy fresh flowers for yourself… Voila – everything will feel like a fresh lemon again!

This is why I’m directing you to the New York Times to read about the most glamorous event of the year – The Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Ball. We’ve been loving and hating gold since 1964. As the price of gold rises, today we are embracing it like never before. As we swim into Spring 2010 and shop our must-have items, i.e. Vera Wang nude wedge, Acne denim, Peach bikini, and girly 50’s pink lipstick, keep in mind that any pale peach and blush items will go brilliantly with your Fall wardrobe as you are incorporating the metallic story of GOLD. Knock off two birds with one stone as you shop for spring. Pick up a lame gold legging at American Apparel to go with your lipstick red body-con tunic. For your eyes only – enjoy viewing the gold dresses that were introduced for Fall during Fall 2010 fashion week(s).

Have you truly visited Texas? Not the cosmopolitan side of it, but the side that is rooted in Mexican beauty and history. People tend to argue that Texas has no culture or any originality. However, in my opinion, it is full of artistry. Having spent ten years of my life in this Mexican-rooted state, I found much inspiration there for my own personal style. It is no surprise that Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte found a long drive from El Paso to Marfa, TX, with a stop in troubled border town Ciudad Juarez, as the origin of their latest masterpiece collection for Fall 2010. The music was indeed a reminder of El Paso (from The Flamingos’ “I Only Have Eyes For You”, to Elvis Presley’s “Blue Moon” to Richie Valens’ “Stay Beside Me”). The music helped present the models as maize farmer’s wives or women waiting for their dear lovers to come home. The collection and mood, especially with the addition of the confetti-covered catwalk and the sculpture of wax candles, were very romantic and unexplained—much like Texas. Rodarte’s Fall presentation reminded me of the ghost lights or Marfa Lights in Marfa, Texas. These are glowing basketball-sized spheres floating above the ground, sometimes high in the air. The colors of the lights are white, yellow, orange, red, sometimes green and blue. These fit Rodarte’s color vision perfectly. The show started with a euphoric display of kaleidoscope-printed skirts and knickers paired with impressive exaggerated layering and draping of the house’s extremely detailed knits. Also presented were beautifully laced embroidered leggings, ending with socks and wrapped shoes with heels that glowed dimly like a melted candle. These heels were clearly the brainchild of Rodarte’s frequent collaborator Nicholas Kirkwood. The Spanish word zapatos is the only suitable name to use when describing them. The shearling outerwear, with what appeared to be goat hair, was a perfect style combination with the fringed skirts. They had layers of the finest yarn with just the right movement of elegance. Last, were the ethereal dresses made of floral chiffon, vintage lace and pearls—all reminiscent of an authentic Mexican wedding or a Quinceanera. These were as whimsical as a lady dancing in mere match light. This all makes perfect sense, with the fact that Kate and Laura were inspired by getting dressed in the dark and sleepwalking. If these are the results of getting dressed in the dark, then I say lights out. Who knew a collection inspired remotely by a story of the murders of mauquiladora workers walking to work in the middle of the night could be interpreted and told so romantically. Only Rodarte can turn this into such beauty, as if it were an opera.

Laced: Lace had a prominent life in Paris (as in New York and Milan) – lace shirts, skirts, dresses, contrast lace and decorative lace.

Bouclés-Lux: Cozy teddy bear fur coats and bouclés made a delicious statement, especially in white – oh so yummy!

Leather-rama: We mentioned leather in New York and Milan as a continuitives trend, however in this Paris trend report, it lives on its own as a re-inventive leather craze – leather tee, dresses and skirts.

High-shine: Colored sleek satin cocktail dresses, day dresses and shifts.

Simplify: Chic little bicolor, striped, and solid-colored shifts are beautifully timeless and yet have the undertone of the Sixties without going retro.

Minimalist: Tailoring in pant suits, skirt suits, and coats carried a simplified mood with a touch of architectural detail.

Folding: The skirt that we’re celebrating is the folded, wrapped, envelope-esque

Continuitives: Asymmetry in hems, onesies, cropped pant, capes,

In color: Camel, Greys, Whites, Metallics, Orange and Rusty Red.

In details: Waist emphasis in coats and longer skirts, fringe, embroidery.

Several fusions or trends are consistent this runway season from New York to Milan. Looks that are set to be the key stories for Fall 2010 are fur, velvets, checks and plaids, camel color, and playful tailoring. This deconstructing and reconstructing of tailored pieces has won me over. In New York we saw it from Alexander Wang and Davidelfin. In Milan this theme came from Jil Sander and Dolce and Gabbana. By taking our New York trend report and comparing it to the trends from Milan, we see they aren’t completely different worlds – more like an elevation from New York to Milan (a similar core with added fusions, flair and wealth). We also see a withdrawal of a certain key trend, i.e. the layering – the trend we named No-mad. Other favorite fusions that I’m noticing coming from Milan are the following:

In Print: Winter Florals, Graphic and Diffused ombré effects

No Sleeves: Gilets and vests carried over from several collections as a fur piece or brushed mohair

Cut It Out: Bold cut-outs in dresses and tops

In Short: Winter shorts – mid-thigh and above the knee

Simple Coating: Minimal modern coats with simple tailoring and square necklines were prevalent

Laced: Lot of lace in skirts, inserts, sheaths and tops

In The Details: Gothic embellishment, Modified fairytale princess flair, Bows, Fringing on cuffs and bottoms

Coloring: Lipstick Red, Dark Berry, Pine, Blacks, Camel, Nudes, Blush, Metallics, Greys

To Be Continued: Leather, Onesies, Cropped jackets, Asymmetry in sleeves, and Capes

Another aspect of fashion that is crucial to the clothes (other than our wallets) is our bodies. When viewing, reporting, watching, and dreaming about fashion our thoughts often bounce back to our own bodies. Can I wear that body-conscious sheath? Does that deconstructed blazer from Davidelfin fit my physique? Are my legs thin enough to wear shorts in winter? Is my skin firm enough for cut-outs in the obliques or any other area that isn’t my back? Finally: Is my body hot enough for high-fashion?

This morning I received an email from a friend in Italy who told me that she wanted to lose 8 lbs. and is doing so via the Mediterranean diet. She asked if I had written about any diets on Fabwick and if I was interested in featuring the Mediterranean diet. I thought to myself – I loathe diets and diets mock me. In my twenties and early thirties, I dieted until I realized that diets make me fat – I eat more when I’m on them because I’m constantly thinking about food. Today I don’t even own a scale. The true test to how I feel about my body is my high-shine, high-waist sample-size Marc Jacobs trouser. Can I wear them without any fear of a zipper or a seam popping as I sit down? If there’s a slight fear – this girl needs to put down the fork and take action. I don’t run, I can’t stand gyms (due to an overdose in the Aerobic 90’s). My savior is hot yoga. When I need something extra, I walk. This morning I tried on the sample-size trouser and found an unfortunate high risk of a pop-effect. I have certainly popped zippers and seams before. It isn’t fun. So this morning I walked for an hour and plan to melt some butter in a hot yoga class this afternoon. Now my question is – should I also diet? The Mediterranean diet doesn’t sound too brutal, in fact it sounds very Mediterranean, and I bet they allow bread, olives and wine. If that’s the case Tonya, please share with us (life is too short to forgo the goods).

That said, we are entering an era of celebrating a fuller figure with Christina Hendricks (from Mad Men) being a role model. And Miuccia Prada sending us the message that the voluptuous female figure is back and the pin-thin-adolescent-girl-meets-boy-figure might be a look from the past. If this is in fact a true look into our present and future, will we stop criticizing our breasts, hips and thighs and start to celebrate our curvy bodies? And if so, why do we need Miuccia or Mad Men to do so? Are we really not strong enough to do this without ‘trends’ from fashion or pop-culture? Either way, as long as the pant fits, I’m a walking celebration and feeling homicidally hot. But when it doesn’t – how long do I have to wait for the tipping point of power-bodies to tip in our favor? Or can we just take charge without approval from the fashion-physique police?
